![]() The Implementing Health Change workshop is fast approaching and in honor of this workshop, I would like to share one key concept to being successful in the transformational process. This simple powerful concept can be articulated by the following: “What you think about expands”. This concept invites you to focus more on what you would like to incorporate and cultivate into your life instead of focusing on what you would like to cut out. Try this on for size. Lets say you are trying to let go of reacting with anger when things do not go your way. Ask yourself- is it more helpful to think about not being angry or to focus on how you would like to cultivate feelings of peace? When we focus on the “not doing”, it can create a sticky mind mess because it makes us think of the "not doing action/reaction" instead of focusing on what would be more helpful in that moment. Take a moment to think of one thing you are trying to do less of in your life. Now take a moment to identify what it is that represents what you would like to incorporate instead. For example, less anger = more peace, less sadness = more joy, less sugar = more healthy foods, etc. Focus for awhile on the MORE part of the equation. You may find this helps your mind, body and spirit to focus more on what you need for greater balance. The more you can focus on expanding those areas you would like to cultivate, the more you will see them coming into your life. On the contrary, if you focus on what you do not want in your life, you may see more of it wherever you go. Again, the expression, “What you think about expands”. So be careful of your focus. When implementing health change, begin by focusing more on what you would like to invite in instead of what you would like to cut out. ~Liz Myers, MA, Rooted Living Wellness Coach
